Super Smash Bros Theme Songs Funny
Although series creator Masahiro Sakurai told The Gamer in November of 2021 there are no real plans for a new Super Smash Bros. entry, the fighting series continues to be extremely popular among gamers everywhere. The last iteration, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, was released in 2018, leaving plenty of time in the past four years for a hysterical crop of memes about the game to pop up on the internet.
From various gameplay complaints to player requests, character traits, and other hilarious observations about the game, Super Smash Bros. has some of the funniest memes of any video game series to date.
Waluigi Never Had A Chance
One of the biggest complaints fans of Super Smash Bros. continually log is the glaring absence of Waluigi, the Mario Bros. character who has never been added to the extensive roster of fighters. Even though Wario features prominently, Waluigi simply remains in the game as an assist trophy, making gamers everywhere petition for his official inclusion as a fighter.
In the always hilarious Eric Andre meme where he quickly dispatches his co-host, Hannibal Buress, the image from Know Your Meme perfectly encapsulates how brutally disrespected Waluigi has been by Super Smash Bros. over the years. Poor Waluigi, he never had a shot!
Waluigi For All
In yet another hilarious Waluigi-centric meme, this one from @Stoic_Miiverse, the frustrating absence of one of Nintendo's most iconic characters has not only been added to the game as a playable character (finally), but has also taken over the entire roster with his trademark purple cap and wicked mustache. Who wouldn't want to play such a game?
The overwhelming fan support for Waluigi being added to the game is illustrated accurately in the image, showing just how much more awesome the game would be if it were rebranded as Super Waluigi Bros. Ultimate. It is every Super Smash Bros. fan's dream fantasy but sadly, Waluigi is one character that'll probably never be added to the series.
Missing Isabella
Another glaring character missing from the Super Smash Bros. action is Isabella, the adorable neighbor of Phineas and Ferb. While Phineas and Ferb do appear in the game, Isabella has yet to show up, causing consternation among many fans of the game and the TV series alike.
Riffing on the classic Drake meme, the image from Redditor MarioHasCookies makes a funny point about how Nintendo has made four Phineas and Ferb video games yet somehow continue to bar their iconic neighbor Isabella from Super Smash Bros. Countless characters have been added to the game over the years, including Piranha Plant, so why not Isabella?
Sakurai's Trophy Hunting
In Super Smash Bros., Assist Trophies are items that when obtained and opened will summon brand new characters to the game. In a play on the classic Grim Reaper knocks on death's door meme, @x1D1x nails how much fun the series creator Sakurai seems to be having introducing new characters after collecting assist trophies.
The meme pokes fun at how seemingly insensitive Sakurai is to fan fervor for the addition of beloved characters like Waluigi, Isabella, and others, essentially willing to kill off their favorite characters if they ask for new additions.
Three Player Strategy
With nearly 8o different characters to fight with during the game, learning which ones fare the best in the three-player free-for-all mode is essential. Most players agree that Little Mac is the worst character, although he actually serves a purpose when fighting in the free-for-all battle arena.
The hilarity of the meme points out the absurdity of how standing on the sidelines actually improves one's health in the game. Since Sponge Bob's health often depletes faster than most, the best strategy is to let Little Mac do all the work as Sponge Bob stands idle and increases his health by doing nothing.
Too Many Sword Fighters
Another common observation about one of the all-time best fighting games is the overabundance of sword-fighting characters who are added at will. It seems like every time a Trophy Assist is broken open, Ike, Martha, Lucina, or some mythic Final Fantasy character inevitably pops up with their sword in tow ready to spar.
The image from Know Your Meme perfectly illustrates how the constant, humorously repetitive wave of new swordfighters leads to very little surprises or anticipatory dread, as players know exactly what to expect and which type of enemy to face off against next.
Saving The Replay
For gamers everywhere, few things are more demoralizing than making an epic run during Super Smash Bros. and being so excited that they fail to save the replay footage. The application of the classic Titanic meme couldn't be funnier, as gamers know full well that trying to remember awesome video game feats is nearly impossible.
What makes the meme so amusing is how the elderly Rose reflects on her time with Jack on the ill-fated ocean liner, and the halfhearted attempt she makes to save him at the end of the film after falling madly in love with him onboard.
King Of The Thrill
While there are many memes about the new characters added to Super Smash Bros. 4, few are as funny and punny as the idea of Hank Hill joining the fighting ranks. Many thought it was a joke when it was announced, but the reality of the beer-drinking King of the Hill star participating is even more amusing.
While his background suggests he is wildly ill-equipped to hold his own in the fighting arena, the image via Know Your Meme nails the play on words, turning Hank's trusty propane tanks he works with into the threat of ProPain as he battles the best of the bunch.
The Crossover Craze Continues
Despite the unlimited character crossovers that seem to occur in the franchise, gamers almost always choose Crash, Sora, or Doom Slayer as DLC characters they want to see join the party. After this meme created in 2020 caught fire, Sora and Doom Slayer have been added as DLC characters toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, while Crash has been added in a fanmade mod of the game.
Aside from riffing on the cynicism of the classic Squidward meme, the thought that playing with the well-known characters like Geno and Dante is more daring than playing with the Sora and Doom Slayer is downright hilarious.
Milk Does A Body Good
When playingSuper Smash Bros., it's always amusing to imagine what really differentiates the heavy hitter Bowser from his acrid counterpart, Dry Bowser, who takes his name from Dry Bones. The droll side-by-side comparison via Know Your Meme is a laugh-out-loud worthy demonstration that milk indeed does a body good!
Of course, the notion that the evil Bowser would sit around and eat cereal as if he was a child adds to the humor, but the before-and-after effect of fortifying Bower's bones through the calcium in milk is pretty darn clever as well.
